The Scarlett Foundation - Scarlett's Story

“My name is Scarlett and I am a six year old spayed female Boxer. I have lived in Floyd County all of my life with a wonderful family that loves me dearly, and I love them very much. Last month, my human companions noticed something was very wrong with me. My tummy was getting very big and I was spiting up white foam. Our local vet told my family to take me to the Veterinary Hospital at Virginia Tech, so off we went to the big vet school in Blacksburg . When we arrived they admitted me right away and told my family that I had bloated and my stomach was twisted. I needed to go to surgery immediately; my life depended on it. The surgery would be very costly, but my family could not imagine losing me and so it was decided that the life saving operation would be performed.

I am proud to say I made it through the surgery and I am recovering very well. My family however, is struggling to pay my medical bills for this unexpected emergency. They wrote to the Floyd County Humane Society in hopes of getting assistance and were very grateful when they received a check for a portion of the expenses. Thank you Floyd County Humane Society!”

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for cats, dogs and horses to need extensive (and expensive) medical treatment due to sickness or injury. This fund exists to help provide medical care for life threatening conditions that may arise in any companion animal making it possible for us to help save an animal's life and to relieve pain and suffering.  The Floyd County Humane Society strives to provide emergency financial assistance to pet owners who are struggling to pay for veterinary care for their pets due to unfortunate circumstances. This temporary assistance can help people get back on their feet. Our ability to help Floyd County pet owners in need directly depends on the generosity of private donors. Without financial support from the community, we could not offer these vital services to the animals and people of Floyd County . Please specify "Scarlett Foundation" on the memo line of your check and thank you for your support.

*Please Help Us Help Them*
Every year our organization rescues hundreds of animals from the Municipal Shelter on their euthanasia date. These animals require basic veterinary care such as spay/neuter and vaccinations. We are committed to these rescued animals even when a medical problem arises while they are in our foster care program. Our funding is critically low and your support is greatly appreciated. Please help us help them by sending your contribution to:
