Happy Endings:

2/25/07

Back in October, I adopted a one year old lab/beagle mix female dog.  Her name was previously "Katie,"  but I changed it to Bindi. When I first met Bindi, she was so excited and friendly. However, she was very afraid to go on walks and to ride in the car. Since her adoption, we have become best friends. She has grown so much emotionally. She now loves to go for walks with me, and she tolerates short car rides. I live alone, and now I cannot imagine my life without her. She keeps me company and she is very "in tune" with how I am feeling. She has learned how to sit, speak, lay down, shake and give ten. She loves to look out the window, and snuggle on my bed. I look forward to being her mommy for the rest of her life. Thank you so much for my perfect match!!!

We were so fortunate to find Ginger! We already had a boxer/beagle mix named Ajax and decided he needed a friend. Looking on Petfinder, we saw several dogs that we felt might work, but when we saw Ginger in person...that was it! We got her Sunday, and these pictures are of their first day together. They are totally inseparable, and Ginger is such a great girl. She made such a quick adjustment is wonderful> addition to our home. Ginger is beautiful, bright, and such a good dispositioned girl. Thanks to her foster home for taking her in and for letting us adpot her. We are all one big happy family now! You wouldn't believe how many doggy kisses we get.

Manny (Blue) - (Male)
Breed: Chihuahua Mix
Age: 6 months
History: Adopted

Description: Here are pictures of Manny (aka Blue), one of the four Floyd Chihuahua mixes, of 10 who successfully survived parvo. Now at 6 months old. Manny was adopted into our family in February and we have just fallen head over heals in love with him. He has gotten bigger, a full 6 pounds! He plays all day long with his brother Meeko, our 2 year old Lhasa Apso. He has so much energy and even more love to give. We can't even imagine not having him in our lives. Manny, his full name being Manny Ramirez, was named after the Red Sox player (as he was probably born shortly after their World Series win!) It is truly a miracle he survived the parvo in this infantcy. We are so grateful Floyd County Humane Society and A Forever Home took this little one and his brothers in. We are so blessed to have him in our family! Thank you again for all the good work you do! God Bless!

Here are some photos that were taken by a professional of
Curtis playing flyball. I thought you might like to have copies of them. I can't thank you enough for helping me find him, he really is the most wonderful dog in the world!

P.S. Plus a photo I took of Curtis resting after a long day of playing fetch.

Here are the two pictures of our dogs, Juji (black one) and Neka (brown one) that we got about three years ago.

"Neka and Juji (aka Moose and Goose) captured my heart when their picture appeared on the FCHS web page. I contacted Nancy Luz, and after receiving approval as a foster mom, I went to pick up the two sisters on their kill date. At a mere 22 pounds each, with hair that felt like boar bristles, they came to my home terrified of people (especially men) but still eager to please. My boyfriend, Mike, had been out of town visiting relatives. When he returned, he saw the two pups in the gated kitchen area and went in to sit with them. At 6' 6" I expected them to run from him- but they bonded immediately. After that, there was no question that they were part of the family.

Today, Neka is a healthy 76 pounds of love and provides constant comic relief. Juji is 62 pounds and the dedicated companion of Mike. The sisters are the best of friends, and get along great with our 3 cats and parrot. Fully trained, they are excellent hiking companions and also enjoy going to downtown events in Blacksburg- they never fail to make friends with the people around them. People always ask us where we got such great dogs- and we are eager to tell them and let them know that other great dogs are waiting for homes."

Rhett was surrendered to Floyd County Animal Control when he was just a baby.  Our humane society didn't have anymore room to take in another dog, but our Animal Control Officers fell in love with him and convinced our humane society to save his life and boy, are we glad we did!!!  Rhett went into foster care for a few short months before finding his dream home.  His foster mom had fallen in love with him and had almost decided to adopt him into her family but wanted to take him to one last adoptathon first.  That is where he met Danny.  It was quiet obvious the two were meant to be together!  Rhett fell in love with Danny immediately and forgot about his foster mom in minutes!  Now Rhett has a wonderful home with Danny and another K9 companion, Roxy.

"Rhett has proven to be the most wonderful dog I've ever owned.  He's what I would call a 'soulful companion', who has these eyes that are almost like a human being.  I know everyone says 'my dog is best' but I have plenty of proof that mine actually is.  My stepdad, Vern, doesn't even like dogs in the house and he let Rhett sleep in bed with him."

Then
Now

Meet Pickle, a Pittbull Terrier.  When Pickle was surrendered to an animal shelter he was tiny and very sick.  When I say tiny--he only weighed 2 pounds and wasn't even 6 weeks old.  He was covered in sores and parasites and his chances of living didn't look very good.  But thanks to lots of love and care from his foster mom (and still part time mom)  he recovered, and as you can see, he is quiet healthy now!!  Pickle is a wonderful dog!!  Very tender hearted, gentle, laid back, easily trained, and FULL of love!!  The only problem is he weighs over 60 pounds and still thinks he is a lap dog.  He fit into our family perfectly and we are thankful to Jamie for giving him the love and care he desperately needed that helped him survive and turn into such a great companion (and for trusting us to adopt him!).  We are very proud to have him in our family!
