Adoption Procedures

We have two different sets of adoption policies, since we work with a local pound as well as privately.

If you are adopting from the pound -

Effective immediately a new adoption ordinance policy is in place for the Giles Co. Shelter.

A $20.00 adoption fee will be charged per animal. This and a completed adoption form will hold the animal for 48 hours.

A prepaid spay/neuter certificate from the vet clinic of your choice must be given to the shelter before the releasing of the dog or cat.

A fee of $150.00 can be paid in lieu of a prepaid certificate. Once the spay/neuter certificate is returned, the $150.00 will be reimbursed.

If you have surrendered an animal to the shelter in the past 2 years (unless a returned adopted dog or cat) you may not adopt another animal.

If you are adopting a foster animal from one of the volunteers - you MUST sign a written contract stating that you will properly care for the animal, including basic veterinarian services, will not tie the animal out, and will allow occasional home checks.  The contract also states that we may remove the animal from your home at any time if we feel you are not taking proper care of it, within state guidelines.  We do an interview, check references, and visit your home, prior to allowing the adoption to take place.  We want to match the right animal to the right individual and home environment.  Adoption fees are at our discretion and depend on the amount of care the animal may have required while being fostered.  All animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and current on shots.

If you have questions related to the animals available for adoption please contact the person listed in the animal's description or visit the Contact Us page.
