County Animal Care & Control
Animal Control officers enforce County regulations for fowl, poultry, livestock, and dangerous animals; check for animal licenses and dog tags; and control stray animals. They administer the dog pound (open Mon.-Fri. noon-1 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.; Sat. 12-4 p.m.) and investigate animal cruelty and abuse cases and bite/rabies cases.
Animal Control does not handle non-domesticated animals such as deer, raccoon, skunks or any other rodents or reptiles. A qualified pest control business or in cases of big game animals, a Virginia State Game Warden should be contacted for such problems.
Animal Control Chief Ray Helmick, Officer Mavin Ogle and Officer Eileen Pittman are either on duty or on call at all times. A message can be left during closed hours. If you have an emergency, contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
