NOTICE: PLEASE BE ADVISED UPON RELEASE OF YOUR ANIMAL TO THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER OR AFTER BEING HELD FOR FIVE (5) DAYS, THAT ANIMAL MAY BE SUBJECT TO EUTHANASIA.
Montgomery County Animal Shelter does not sell animals for medical research. The "no pound seizure" law came into effect July 1, 2003.
Dogs and puppies surrendered by owners can be adopted to new owners the same day. Dogs picked up running at large or strays with no ID are held 5 days, not counting day picked up. Dogs with collar or other Id are held 10 days, not counting day picked up.
All dogs and puppies 4 months and older need to have a Montgomery County dog tag, which needs to be purchased every year. The dog tag is your dogs way back home. If we get a dog wearing a tag we can trace it to the owner.
If your dog is missing please come by the shelter. The best way to determine if your dog is at the shelter is to come by and look for yourself, please don't rely on descriptions over the phone. You can call us and we will put your information on our lost and found book. If you find a dog please call us.
Shelter Animal Control hours are Monday through Friday, 12-1pm & 4-5pm
and Saturday 3-4pm
Volunteers of Friends (FACC) hold open pound hours on Saturdays from 12 - 4 pm. Come out and take a dog for a walk or help make introductions to new owners and their pets!
If you are interested in any of these dogs, please verify sex and status of the dog with the shelter. Adoption fees are $10.00 for all dogs and prepay spay/neuter of $65 for females and $60 for males is required. Please see our adoption procedures page describing the fees.

Cage 1F - Grace is a short legged sweetie. She's ~1 year old and will be spayed within 30 days of her adoption. Although mainly friendly with all, she can be aggressive with some other dogs. She will do best in a one dog home that doesn't often have outside dogs visiting. |

Cage 2F - Freddie is a super cute mix of possibly a cocker spaniel and a hound dog... he's about 1 1/2 and probably won't get much bigger! He loves people! Also check out his brother Freckles in cage 11F!! |

Cage 3F - Boone is a 1 1/2 year old just looking for the right home. |

Cage 4F - This sweet female, black lab mix is currently at the vet being treated for demodex. She is ~1 year old, ~35 lbs and loves to play fetch. Once the demodex is gone she will be available for adoption. She came in with little hair, but has been steadly growing it back with treatment. Cage 5F - Louie is a big baby! He is so charming and sweet, he is pretty young right around 1 year and very well behaved. But be aware... this boy slobbers like nobody's business!! So if you like big, friendly, slobbery dogs Louie is perfect for you!!! |

Cage 6F - Max was surrendered by his owner on 11/21. He is about 7 years old and is very timid. He is very sweet once he gets to know and trust you but will be very standoffish at first. This is in part because he was semi-starved when he came in, both for food and attention. |

Cage 7F - Bailey was surrendered by her owner on 11/28. She is about 2 years old and very energetic. |

Cage 8F - This pretty boy was found as a stray on Ellett rd. on 11/23 and is now available for adoption. He is a Redtick Coonhound and is about 3 years old. He is very sweet and affectionate and loves to be wherever you are! |

Cage 9F - Little Foot was surrendered on 1/20 because her owner moving and couldn't take her with them. She is very friendly, is good with children and cats, and is housebroken! Come check this little cutie out today! |

Cage 10F - Tall and leggy, this lady will charm you with her attentive ways. Dreama has a beautiful coat and a very expressive face. |

Cage 11F - Freckles came to the shelter emaciated and scared of everything. now he's gaining some weight and has realized that people are so much fun! He is still a bit shy at first but will warm up with a little reassurance! His brother Freddie is also at the shelter and in cage 02F. |

Cage 12F - Rigatoni is a very sweet pitt/basenji mix about 8months-1 year old. He is energetic and loves to play. |

Cage 13F - Senior female Lab, friendly and walks well on a leash. Very nice girl. |

Cage 14F -This little woman is a find! Maggie is sweet and loves attention. She'd keep you warm on these cold winter nights, and walks with her will burn off all those holiday calories! |

Cage 15F - This sweet old boy deserves a good home to live out his golden years. He is sweet nad affectionate. He was found as a stray on Mud Pike Rd in Christiansburg with no ID. He is about 10 years old and weights approximately 50 lbs. He is available for adoption now. |

Cage 16F - Max is an owner surrender, he is 1 year old and weighs 50lbs. He is a sweetheart and walks well on a leash. |

Cage 4B - Adorable Beagle mix, male, 30lbs and housebroken. He's a cool little dog and is good around other dogs as well. |

Cage 15B - Tyler is a Beagle/Daschund mix who isn't completely happy with his whereabouts. He doesn't trust men but the FACC volunteers are working with him daily. He's neutered and UTD on vaccinations. |

Cage 16B - Skinny minny, this Catahoula male is a young 6 months and at ~30lbs he's all lanky legs and lean torso. Very cool dog, friendly and fun. |
